Pain de Campagne

It's French For Country Bread

Often referred to as French Sourdough, our Pain de Campagne is made with a combination of whole wheat flour and rye flour and is vegan friendly.

When made traditionally, the dough is fermented slowly over a 24 hour period which allows for a long fermentation that develops its unique flavours. This process gives a depth of flavour that develops naturally, rather than as the result of the flour improvers or rising agents that are more commonly used by large-scale bakeries.

For centuries and long before the development of the French Baguette, French villages had communal ovens where the townsfolk would bring their dough to be baked. These large loaves, often weighing several kilograms, would feed a family for days or weeks or until the next baking day.

With the rise in popularity of artisan breads, Pain de Campagne has been growing in popularity across Europe and the Unites States and is now freshly baked and available in all STACKED stores.

It’s an aspiring thought. And an even bigger commitment. And one the STACKED team is passionate about.
